How was your Thanksgiving? Did you get enough turkey, gravy and stuffing? How about NHL gambling? Did you miss it as the NHL made way for the NFL Thanksgiving juggernaut?

Tonight’s NHL gambling bet of the night is going to be for be that the Florida Panthers get two points from the Metropolitan division’s top ranked New Jersey Devils.

FLA +115 @ -135 NJD

I just wrote for EyesonIsles.com that we have to stop shorting the New Jersey Devils. At this point of the season they aren’t the pretenders we thought they were. But yet here I am betting against them.

But let me make one thing clear. The New Jersey Devils won’t win every game. They might win a majority of their contests, as they are now. But with the competitive nature of the NHL they won’t. Now it’s just figuring out when they might lose theses contests. And I’m taking the Panthers as one of them.

So why the Florida Panthers? A team stuck to the bottom of the worst division in hockey? How could they cause an upset against the top team in the best division in hockey?

The Panthers are a sneaky good team. That top line of Trocheck and Huberdeau are at a point per game with Barkov only a single point behind them. They put up points, they just to get some better goaltending. And Roberto Luongo is doing just that at the moment. Through November Luongo is 4-3-1 with a 0.938SV% and a 2.34GAA. Those are some game winning numbers for the 38-year-old. Yeah. He’s 38-years-old.

The Devils come into this game 3-1-1 playing all five in an eight day spread. That’s a lot of hockey for the Devils. They continue that trend of playing every other night with a sixth in 10 days. That’s going to catch up to the Devils as they welcome a team that’s played two fewer games in the same time frame.

So I’m going with a well rested and trending upward Florida Panthers over a tired and frankly punching above their weight New Jersey Devils.
