We’re two-for-four in our NHL gambling bet of the night. Seems that betting against the Capitals was a good plan after all.

Our Bet of the Night for September 23rd was that the Carolina Hurricanes would take the win against the Washington Capitals. And boy did they.

The Carolina Hurricanes took the game with a 4-1 win. It’s not like the Hurricanes were out there against a bunch of call-ups. The Caps had Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, Matt Niskanen and Brooks Orpik in the lineup. And a very capable Philip Grubauer in nets.

It’s preseason, so the outcome matters little to how things will play out in the regular season. But the Hurricanes and the moves they made in the offseason might just be something to watch out for. Playoffs might be a very real possibility for Ron Francis’ boys.

Last Night’s NHL Scores:

COL (+155) 1 @ 2 MIN (-190)
BOS (+125) 1 @ 5 DET (-145)
CAR (+140) 4 @ 1 WSH (-170) Bet of the Night/Best Return
MTL (+105) 1 @ 5 OTT (-130)
NYR (-150) 1 @ 2 NJD (+130)
TOR (EVEN) 3 @ 1 BUF (-120)
DAL (+120) 4 @ 0 STL (-140)
CBJ (+135) 3 @ 2 CHI (-165)
SJS (-135) 5 @ 4 ARI (+110)
WPG (+160) 2 @ 6 EDM (-190)

Columbus was another underdog that turned the tables against the Blackhawks. Taking a 3-2 from the boys from Maddison Street. But at +140 the Carolina Hurricanes provided the best payout last night.

Look Vegas still doesn’t have it together when it comes to hockey. And it’s hard to put narrative in a game line. But the Hurricanes have something to prove, even in preseason. With back-to-back President Trophy’s the Capitals have nothing to prove.

The 82 gameĀ regular season is but an inconvenient step to the playoffs for them. The playoffs are where the Capitals need to prove themselves.

Bet of The Night

Tonight’s Bet of The Night is the Florida Panthers against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Florida derby takes itsĀ first steps in 2017-18.

(Remember, we get all of our lines from Bodog.)

For this game the Lightning have rested their offense. Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov get to stay at home. They’ll still have Victor Hedman and Mikhail Sergachev to depend on at the blue line. But going forward its slim pickings.

And with the Florida Panthers trimming down their training camp roster by 17 names expect a number of vets to make the team. That’s enough for me to give them the advantage on the night.

NSH (+105) @ CBJ (-130)
FLA (+135) @ TBL (-165) Bet of the night
MIN (-120) @ COL (EVEN)
VGK (+130) @ ANA (-160)
STL (+140) @ PIT (-170)

We’re going for the hat trick tonight. Maybe it’s time you start following along.
